Official Opening of New Club House at Killererin GAA Club   09/04/2018

On Friday December 13th 1889 a notice in the “Tuam NEWS” declared “A football Club in connection with the G.A.A. has been formed and affiliated at Killererin”. Gaelic Football in the North Galway parish has experienced many challenges, triumphs, losses and victories over the last 129 years. 2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of Killererin entering the senior ranks of Galway Club Football. The weekend of April 20th to April 22nd next will be a weekend of exultation and jubilation when the club officially opens a new clubhouse. A fun packed weekend is in store not only for members of the local community as an invitation is extended to one and all to join in the festivities. An enormous marquee will be erected adjacent to “The Red Gap” to accommodate the large attendances.

The festivities commence on the night of Friday 20th April at 8.00 p.m. sharp with a GAA Celebrity Panel. The panel will preview the eagerly anticipated Galway versus Mayo first round Connaught Championship match scheduled for May 13th. The event will be a novel and exciting occasion with panellists of national recognition participating, Willie Joe Padden and John Maughan of Mayo and Darragh O’Shea of Kerry along with our own Padraic Joyce. Barnaderg native Michael Lyster of RTE will be chairing the panel and we expect further local club stars will also participate. In recognition of 20th Anniversary of the 1998 All Ireland Galway success a jersey signed by the team of ’98 will be raffled on the night.

Local band “Streetwise” will follow and as experience tells when Streetwise play a gig in a marquee at Killererin the night explodes with instant bopping and boogying. Following Streetwise there will be a disco with full bar extension. Tickets are not being sold in advance for this event - entry will be on a first come first served basis with admission at €10. Doors open at 7.30 p.m.

On the entertainment side of the celebrations the highlight of the weekend on Saturday 21st April will be a performance in the marquee by Robert Mizzell supported by Stuart Moyles. Doors open at 9.00 p.m. with music commencing at 9.30 p.m. Following Robert Mizzell there will be a disco with full bar extension. Already there is huge interest in this event with limited tickets available. Tickets are on sale from club members and officials. They can also be bought online.killereringaa.com.

On Sunday April 22nd at 12.30 p.m. the new clubhouse will be officially opened. The official opening will be performed by Gerry McGovern, newly elected Connaught Council Chairperson. The Galway Senior Team will play a challenge match against another Senior County team. Watch this space! Before the game and again at half time Killererin underage players will showcase their skills and talents.

The week end festivities will close with local musicians John and Mike Keane along with Tierney Talks at the marquee.

A weekend not to be missed, so come along and join in the fun and celebrations and let’s give our Galway Senior Footballers plenty of support in there last challenge game before they head off to play Mayo!
